Why can't we make films for adults?

You have been promoting Delhi Belly along with generating interest on your PIL on lowering the drinking age in Maharashtra from 25 to 21. Is it smart marketing to offset the irreverent tone of the film or commitment to a cause?

Honestly, my campaign is long-term. And I haven’t spoken about it to the entertainment media during my Delhi Belly promotions. I have tried to segregate issues and talked about the drinking age bar in the mainstream media. Having said that let me clarify that the timing was purely coincidental. Had the decision against lowering drinking age not come a couple of weeks ago, you wouldn’t have asked me this question.

My decision wasn’t instinctive. I met lawyers to understand if this battle had a chance. They felt I could seek redress under the Constitution.

I think the drinking age bar always gets lost in the argument of responsible drinking behaviour and whether lowering an acceptable age limit is about encouraging alcoholism in the first place...

If you are giving responsibility to an adult, then give him a free hand. Half-measures can only leave you confused. If you’re giving a person the right to vote and choose a partner at 21, then that person should have the right to indulge in anything which is legal in India.

Admitted, drinking can become a serious problem and I have seen my friends go through it. But you are not solving it by taking the right step. Legalise the drinking age at 21 and chances are that many young people will not transgress limits in a spirit of rebellion and may even sit down with their parents for a drink, shed their inhibitions and become responsible members of an open society. A restrictive step will have a negative fallout. First, everyone will make fake IDs in Mumbai. Second, there will be bribery and bootlegging. Unknowingly, we will be creating a sub-culture of corruption and crime.

Why did you choose to take up the issue with women journalists?

My idea was to address a different section of the media and get an alternative viewpoint. And indeed, I found myself in the middle of a different line of questioning.

The 2010 season began with Boston Red Sox fans again thinking about a World Series Championship. But instead, injuries hampered the Red Sox hopes and fans watched as the Tampa Bay Rays went to the playoffs instead of their beloved team. But the team has made a key trade and several free agent acquisitions that should propel them even further in 2011.

In 2010, Boston suffered several injuries to key players. First baseman Kevin Youkilis suffered a thumb injury but still managed a . 307 batting average with 19 home runs and 62 runs batted in. If Youkilis can stay healthy he is a good bet to hit 25-30 homers and over 100 RBIs like he has done in the past.

Youkilis enters the new season with his thumb seemingly 100 percent, and Becketts velocity is back where he needs it to be as well. The team thought they had enough depth last year, but they have even better depth going into the 2011 season.

Adding another dynamic bat, the Red Sox signed free agent outfielder Carl Crawford away from division rival Tampa Bay. Crawford, with a combination of speed and power, slides into the third slot in the batting order behind Pedroia and Ellsbury and will be on base often in front of the middle order hitters Gonzalez, Youkilis, and David Ortiz.

Crawford comes over from the Rays and he adds another all star hitter to the Boston line up. He adds a blend of power and speed and could be a perfect third place hitter in the lineup following Ellsbury and Pedroia. Those three should be on base quite a bit for clean-up hitter Gonzalez to knock in.

Youkilis will likely bat fifth with David Ortiz hitting sixth in the order, giving the team plenty of veteran run producers throughout the lineup. Veteran outfielder J. D. Drew, catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, and short stop Marco Scutaro round out the order.

While the trade for Gonzalez and the signing of Crawford grabbed the headlines, and rightfully so, there were a few other key signings as well. The team signed reliever Dan Wheeler, formerly of the Rays. The defection of Wheeler and Crawford from the division rival Rays depletes that team while also helping the Red Sox. Wheeler has been a solid middle reliever, averaging 57 innings with a 3.13 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP in the past three seasons, meaning he does not walk many batters or give up too many hits while coming into tough situations in the late innings. Wheeler should give Boston solid innings, bridging the gap between the starters and closer Jonathan Papelbon.
