Revere hosting football competition to aid charity
BATH — On July 29, six local high school football teams will get together at Revere High School to compete on the field — and try to raise money for a charity in the process.
“The first annual Revere Football Charity 7-on-7 Extravaganza is an event designed to bring a number of highly competitive high school football teams together for a friendly 7-on-7 passing competition while supporting and bringing awareness to a great charity — Rush for a Cause,” said Phillip Heyn, head coach of the Revere High School football team.
According to Heyn, Rush for a Cause was established to provide community and financial support for qualified tragically and severely injured athletes, to raise awareness for the need, and to help promote injury prevention. More information about Rush for a Cause can be found at www.rushforacause.org .
“I believe the 7-on-7 passing scrimmage on July 29 is a great event, with great players and coaches, great competition, and all supports a great cause,” Heyn said. “We have the teams, a charity and sponsors — now we are doing our final push to promote the event to the different communities of the participating teams and to general football fans in Northeast Ohio.”
In addition to Heyn and Revere, the other coaches and teams taking part in the event are: coach Glen Kruger and Norton High School; coach Joe Vassalotti and Tallmadge High School; coach Mike Thut and Northwestern High School; coach Jim Ryan and Olmsted Falls High School; and coach Ed Miley and Marlington High School.
“Revere football was going to host Norton for a 7-on-7 competition and we also knew we wanted to support Rush for a Cause this coming year, so we thought, why not combine the two and make an event out of it,” he said. “I talked to Coach Kruger at Norton and he loved the idea and was in favor of expanding it to six teams.”
Heyn said the idea is to make the Revere Football Charity 7-on-7 Extravaganza a yearly tradition.
“We very much would like to make this an annual charity event,” he said. “The original idea was to do a different charity each year, but we may stay with Rush for a Cause since its mission is in line with our program — to support athletes.”
The day’s events will include three main forms of activities, Heyn said.

“The money for the charity will be raised through voluntary donation collections at the gate and proceeds from the concessions, 50-50 raffle and football skill games. If you want to see some great football, play some games and support a great charity,
The Jackets are aiming for relevance – in the NHL, firstly, but also among Ohio sports fans – and they know the best way to achieve it is to win. To do that, they need better players, guys that can help them win enough games to play in bigger ones,

A win over Oregon in Cowboys Stadium on September 3 would be a great start to a chance to once again play for the national title in their home state as they did in the 2008 BCS National Championship Game against Ohio State. But a road trip to Alabama
Player Preview Friday (C): Michael Brewster « Scarlet and Game ...
How does that old Benjamin Franklin saying go? “Nothing is certain but death, taxes, and Michael Brewster.” That may not be the exact quote, but for a center in the Big Ten to have 36 starts going into his senior year, well, you do the math, that’s pretty certain. Ohio State has had plenty of drama this offseason, and it could very easily tear the team apart, but Brewster has been one of the seniors that stepped up and took control. The team, by all internal accounts, is closer than ever, pissed off, and ready to take out their anger on their opponents…sorry Akron. This team leader won’t be all talk, as he’s proven that he can walk the walk on the field. He enters this season as a strong favorite to be the nation’s top center and winner of the Rimington Trophy. ): 3rd-year starter/letterman at center, Rimington Trophy finalist, FWAA, Phil Steele 1st team All-America, 1st team All-Big Ten, Outland, Rimington awards preseason watch list, Jim Parker lineman of week: Marshall and Penn State
The other highly recruited O-Linemen from the 2008 recruiting class, Mike Adams and JB Shugarts, are still trying to leave their mark on OSU football by having a strong 2011 campaign. However, one thing is for sure, Michael Brewster IS and WILL BE remembered as a solid, Buckeye center, and hopefully one of the best to wear the scarlet and gray. Brewster has emerged as a leader both on and off of the field, and looks to anchor a talented OSU line that will be leading the way for a ridiculous amount of RB skill. At any point, no matter the ball carrier (Hall, Berry, Smith, Hyde, Herron…scary, I know), Brewster will be barking out signals, making reads, and carving holes in defensive lines.
While some folks are in the land of Twitter sending out messages berating other people or writing things to make you question their commitment to their craft, Michael Brewster is telling Buckeye Nation this, “Training hard as hell…we will be ready.” Not sure about you, but I believe him.
The bottom line with Michael Brewster is that he has good size and strength, excellent speed, a good head on his shoulders, a great work ethic, and WILL be a fantastic representation of what a Buckeye football player is this year and into his NFL career.
2011 Season Prediction: PAIN
