Most memorable moment: “It is my first time driving in the Modified class. I was wondering what the heck I had gotten myself into when I returned from the rest room and their was Danny Johnson and a few other racers talking to a motor builder by my trailer.”

Most embarrassing moment: “Wrecking a brand new race car by smacking the wall in my first race with the car. But I was back the next week with a brand new frame on the car.”

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Feb. 19, 2009) – For the second year in a row, Finger Lakes Community College has received a donation of one-month classroom usage of a Bobcat skid-steer loader from D.J.M. Equipment/ Bobcat of the Finger Lakes , 7216 Palmyra Rd., Fairport. The machine has been delivered to FLCC’s Canandaigua Campus and is being used by students in the Landscape Construction and Maintenance course (HRT 202) this spring.

Students in this course will complete Bobcat safety training and will learn to operate and drive the machine. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be certified in Bobcat safety.

“This course met with great success last year when we first offered it, and I am pleased that we are able to offer it again due to the generosity of D.J.M. Equipment,” stated Rochelle Smith, instructor of ornamental horticulture for FLCC. “This hands-on learning experience will provide our students with the practical skills necessary to compete in today’s job market.”

FLCC’s Landscape Construction and Maintenance course is designed to provide hands-on experience in the installation and maintenance of landscape materials, including the planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs, lawns, and herbaceous plants, as well as hardscapes, waterscapes, and irrigation systems. An introduction to selection, operation, and maintenance of landscape tools and equipment is also provided.
