Deciding on a Yurt

Made popular by the nomadic Mongolians, traditional yurts were constructed with a circular wooden frame with a felt cover. The felt came from the wool of the Mongolian sheep. If you decide to go this route, the felt is usually covered with canvas which provides durability and stability. The majority of these yurts were designed to be portable so that the nomadic people could graze their animals, but modern yurts can also be permanent and are made with various materials. When choosing a plan, keep in mind what you want to use the yurt for, the materials available to you, and the preferred size.
