In Survey, Many Polk Teachers Pan County "Learning Focused" Program

Facts TEACHER COMMENTS

These comments about the Learning Focused Strategies program were made by teachers answering a survey by their union, the Polk Education Association.

"The reason I am able to have a positive outlook about LFS, planning, etc., is because my principal and assistant principal actually understand the LFS process. The key is the effectiveness of the administration."

"In my training, we were told by the facilitator that LFS is for middle-class students. Most of Polk County is not middle class."

"I believe that not having to do LFS would help me in the classroom. I am a veteran teacher, three times Teacher of the Year and my family (members) have been teachers in the county since the 1900s. All the intimidation, workload, low pay and working conditions have driven fabulous educators to retire early or want to leave this county and seek employment somewhere else."

"The implementation of LFS has added a great deal of time and stress to all of the teachers at our school. Lesson plans and keeping up with the boards is very frustrating. We are given very little training and then are criticized for noncompliance. I never heard words of encouragement, only criticism. As a result, I am doubting myself as a teacher and am currently looking for other means of employment."

"These LFS boards have to much information on them and are too overwhelming for the teachers and students to even look at. I can't even imagine how an ESOL or ESE student feels looking at them. They cause me anxiety!"

In two separate surveys, many teachers stated earlier this year that the School District should end its contract with Learning Focused Strategies.

In one survey — done by district officials — many school based-employees responded that Learning Focused should be cut as part of the solution to budget challenges. In it, 98 respondents suggested that contract be ended. The district said it was unknown how many total responses it received to the survey nor how many employees received it.

And in the other survey — done by the teachers union, the Polk Education Association — more than 100 teachers said the program was ineffective and too much work. In the union survey, 2,099 out of 6,801 teachers responded.

"This is the first year implementing it (Learning Focused) at our school," one teacher wrote in the union survey. We are not, and never were, a failing school. Now, the entire school is in complete chaos. There was a time when I went to work with a positive attitude, knowing that I was making a difference.

Customer Dish Launches Free SMS Survey and Marketing Plan | SCKL ...

(PRWEB) June 26, 2007

London, UK: Business IT Online have announced the release of an exciting new marketing module for their online business software that empowers small businesses to raise their online business profile and be recommended by others. Benefiting from advanced web 2.0 features and an intelligent business search engine, businesses can, for the first time, actively build their online visibility and credibility as well as demonstrate their capabilities to would-be buyers of their services.

Business IT Online helps small businesses succeed. We are very excited about building a thriving network of small businesses that will... feedback via the comments engine, conduct custom SMS surveys, build a subscribers list, and send bulk text messages to subscribers. All for free. By allowing this hands-on investigation of the product Customer Dish gives clients confidence they are selecting the right tool for their business. Whether they continue to use the Starter plan or mature their campaigns into one of several paid subscription options, the merchant experiences full transparency and clarity of choice.

With the ever increasing popularity of messaging there is an obvious opportunity for customer facing businesses to engage their audience via text messages. As a result, services have emerged that allow merchants to send bulk SMS messages to lists of subscribers they collect. These tools provide little or no ability for the merchant to segment their subscribers based on demographics or context in order to better target their mobile marketing initiatives and budget. By offering free access to the entire suite of Customer Dish tools merchants are able to see how gaining context about a subscriber feeds into more targeted, effective mobile marketing and messaging.

More specifically, each customer comment, interactive survey, or outbound message response is populated with key demographic data and can be viewed, searched, forwarded, exported, or tagged. Any portion of this context about a customer can be used when segmenting the merchants subscriber list to target marketing and news campaigns. For example, on a slow Tuesday a restaurateur could send a last minute appetizer coupon to only those subscribers who have been in during happy hour, within the last month, are in nearby zip codes, and mentioned enjoying the spring rolls. Every bit of this can now be tried and tested for free, by anyone.
