GM pins hopes on new 2013 models
Has published a “future product guide” of what you can expect to see by the 2103 model year of three of GM’s four surviving North American brands:Cadillac — Going into the 2012 model year, GM’s European-fighting luxury brand will have only one passenger car to sell — the mid-size CTS .
But within the next year, an all-new ATS rear-wheel-drive compact sedan — to take on the BMW 3 Series — will launch as a 2013. Joining the ATS will be the XTS , a full-size sedan that effectively replaces the outgoing STS and DTS four-doors . It will arrive in Spring 2012.
Chevrolet — We already know Chevrolet will be adding the Spark city car as a 2013 model to its growing small car lineup. But an all-new subcompact crossover is also slated to arrive to be based on the existing European-market Opel Meriva .
In a separate report from the Detroit Bureau, Chevy is also looking at a two-door version of its successful Cruze compact .
Buick — While a station wagon version of its Regal sedan has been heavily speculated for 2013 (it would share the same platform as the proposed Chevy subcompact crossover ), Buick will be getting its own small utility vehicle.
Dubbed the “Baby Enclave,” the five-passenger Encore is expected to be about the size of a Nissan Rogue .
Fiat to create new SRT brand for North America
After splitting off its Dodge truck offerings into the new, stand-alone Ram brand , relaunching Fiat and making plans to reintroduce Alfa Romeo to North American new car buyers, Italy’s Fiat has announced it’s creating a stand-alone Street and Racing Technology brand for North America.
While Chrysler has sold various Street and Racing Technology (SRT)-tuned models since 2002, the newly distinct brand will be an in-house “performance” division , much in the way Germany’s Mercedes-Benz treats its AMG brand.
