Tom Moore signs contract extension through 2015-16 season

Quinnipiac men’s basketball head coach Tom Moore signed a contract extension through the 2015-16 season, Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald announced Monday afternoon.

“I am thrilled to sign a contract extension again from Quinnipiac University,” Moore said. “It’s a great honor and a great privilege to be the head men’s basketball coach here. The support I have received and the support my program has received since the day I got here back in March of 2007 has been incredible. I’m very happy with everything that has happened so far here at Quinnipiac with me and my family.”

The terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Moore, 46, signed a contract extension through the 2014-15 season last April, weeks after he led the Bobcats to the program’s first Northeast Conference regular season title and postseason berth.

Moore, the second head coach since the Bobcats moved to Division I, credited Quinnipiac University President John Lahey and McDonald for the new deal.

“President John Lahey and Director of Athletics Jack McDonald have been incredibly supportive of me and my program since I arrived here four years ago,” Moore said.

McDonald gave high words for Moore as well.

“The entire Quinnipiac community is so pleased with the continued success that Tom and his staff and team have brought to our Quinnipiac community,” McDonald said. “We all look forward to continued athletic success and academic progress with Tom and his staff.”

With Moore’s coaching skills, the Bobcats have reached new heights from a program standpoint and a statistical standpoint.

In his four seasons as head coach, Moore has led the team to a 75-51 record, a 49-23 league record and two postseason berths. He has the best winning percentage among the program’s head basketball coaches (.595).

The past two seasons alone, the Bobcats have a 45-20 overall record and a 28-8 NEC record, best in the league.

“In the last two years we have been fortunate enough to have the best regular season winning percentage in the league and have the highest attendance at home in the NEC and also qualify for two national postseason Division I tournaments, and that’s a first in the history of the school,” Moore said.

Moore led the Bobcats to a program-high 23 victories in the 2009-10 season, helping Quinnipiac win the NEC regular season title and appear in the NIT.

MOORE FAMILY BLOG: Kentucky - A Bluegrass Blog

Kentucky is known for its thoroughbred horses, horse racing, bourbon distilleries, bluegrass music, tobacco, and college basketball. Thinking about what makes Kentucky great is very similar to what separates the Moore clan and the Wingerter family from all others. As all the family members grow and mature, we seem to be like thoroughbreds - born and raised to be the best. And let's not get started on the competitiveness this family possesses. We never lose at anything we set out to accomplish - however we sometimes change our goals along the way. There are numerous distilleries and breweries not only in Kentucky, but all over this great country, our families have kept in business. And music - well that just goes without saying. I wish you all could hear me sing after a few of those breweries have made a gross profit from me. Amarillo By Morning has never sounded better. Tobacco reminds me of how smokin' hot this family is, even when some of us have rolled our own in the past. College basketball brings to mind the team work needed to win a championship while individual improvement is a must on order to propel the team to a higher successes. The Moore family has certainly proved the success of team concept with the individual accomplishments. And to my own family, you have made me a very proud father. I puff up my chest and let everyone know how successful you all are in your lives; a mother-wife-nurse, a physical therapist assistant, a doctor, a teacher and soldier, a high school senior more mature than many of the adults I know (including me), and a most beautiful eight grade daughter. The achievements you have all made not just in academics or occupations but to the contributions you have made to all those lives you touch makes me burst with love. And all this started by a couple of kids God brought together. Thank you Mary - I love you.
